Poem

      ROBERT

      It's funny how
      if you don't know
      he only remembers
      long term memory

      It's funny how
      he thinks he is
      still 20 years old

      And he calls
      out to his mother
      who has been gone

      like, forever
      and sucks his
      food as a baby
      would upon his
      mother's breast

      But his gaze is
      on me as I move
      about the room

      as I tie feeders
      around necks
      I know he has
      some functions

      his brain is not
      dead His gaze roams
      over my body as any
      healthy man's would

      I'm not allowed
      to know he's peeking
