Poem

      EMOTIONAL RIDE

      i crouch on the clifftop
      overlooking the sea
sobbing for my own sudden poverty
      a lost inheritance
      when both parents have died
      and i am alone

      are baby dolphins fatherless
      do they arch and tumble
      in ecstasy or agony through
      the deepest blue and white
      crest of travelling wave never
      leaving the shadow of mother

and what are dolphins to me
      could i ride their shafts
      of light through clear water
      their straight bottle
      noses pushing towards white
      sands wet and shifting
beneath me as does the future
      on that unfamiliar shore
