Poem

      TRANSITION

      Each lunch time
the boy with down syndrome watches
      his class mates
      play

      By
      the basketball court
      he sits
      solid
      as a paper weight

      Holding down his
      own shadow
      Around him
      the other school children
      have drawn
      an arctic
      circle

      So
      his dumb talk
      and unmanageable tongue
      can not
      escape
