      CAR PARK RAGE

she told me of the embarrassment
      immediately after the 'incident'
what was mortifying wasn't the shouting
the swearing, although at the time
she told him it was not called for

the fact that he was six foot
with a belly and one of those
      I'm better than you vehicles
didn't bother her, although the belly
did come to the forefront of her mind

calling her son a bunny head was
insulting and made her wonder if maybe
he was a bit short in the vocab stakes but
what really squeezed her bullets, upset
her goat, flavoured her curry was

the oval of shoppers 'n trolley
boys from pak'n save all assembled
for the entertainment. No she said
it wasn't the crash that distressed her
      as much as those witnesses.

'THE RETURN OF THE STUDENTS' 1

      streets rainbowed with students
      dormant gardens planted out with
      sprung couches, supermarket trolleys
      beer bottles and tinnies

      bellies bulging above boxers with
      jeans slung lower still, northern
      brevity soon covered by southern
      comfort scarves, hats and coats

night music absorbed by boy racers
      10.pm restricted licenses curfewing
them from this scene, they'll remain
      understudies for another year
