      VISUAL CLARITY

Went my heels in syncopation with the sunlight
      and the spring breeze,
      Backpack on my back,
      Purse clenched to my side,
Literary theory running through my head,
My only worry is trying to figure out exactly how Cornell
      West and Gaytri
Spivak correspond to each other for the purpose of getting
      an "A" on my test.
Ahhh the leisure of the life of the suburban college
      student on the city.

Went my heels knowing their destination.
"Miss!" he called "Can you help me?"
A blind man, disheveled hair, with lines of worry on his face
      Flushed with a lost disposition,
Wandering with a seeing- eye dog with tired red lines
in his eyes came to me.
"Can I follow the clicks of your heels to class?" he asked.

      Sang my heels,
Happy to guide him down the path of charity,

Lending him my eyes for two minutes of my life. "If only my dog could read."
      He said with a chuckle.
How two minutes can change your life miraculously.

Went my heels in a slow deep thought
I look around at the urban setting,
      The mighty Sears Tower,
Stabbing the clouds with its height.
      I don't think he'll ever see it,
      Only hear about it.
Or stand by it and feel the forceful air pressure around it,
Having to substitute other senses for his sight.

      Click.Click.Click
      Went my thankful heels
Thanking God for something I have taken for granted,
      The beauty of sight.
