Poem

      CONVERSATION PIECE

      "Whatever happened to your friend
      who curled her fish-net legs
      on the second-hand couch
      and laughed about the men
she met in the K road.

      Studs in her nose, tongue,
      lips, belly-button
      & clitoris.
Silver rings on fingers & toes.
      Her hair was violent red?"

      "She had a baby,
      adopted by her mother.
      She's straight now,
      married
      and had two more babies

      in quick
      succession.
      She's at teacher's college,
      studying to be
      a childcare worker."

      My eyes
      flick open.
      The wind unravels me.
      Winter birds
      will arrive.
