Poem

      INSIDE OUT

      do you remember a moment
      when you stood
at the edge of some highway
      with an eagle
      pounding inside your chest
      wanting to shield
      your eyes from the glare
      but smiled instead

      then life
      had a full-on belly laugh
      and stepped in
I can almost taste it again
      sense a point of departure
      somewhere inside this text
      this grand narrative
      of disinformation
      still

      there are fragilities
      across the shoulder
and in the sway of hips
      subversions in a cardigan
      retrieved from mothballs

      but this unmistakable feeling
like the shadow of a bird
      holds some hint of truth
      that behind the shadow
there is the meat and gristle
      of wings beating a path
